Koala Gaming Diary – April 29, 2008

Ok, folks been super super busy. A lot has happened in the two weeks since my last post. First and foremost, my Elite 360 got the dreaded red ring of death! (oh knowz!) Except it wasn’t the three red lights…I got one red light and the error message E74. A quick google search indicated that this was likely to be an error in one of the graphics components, so needless to say, my console was f’d. Luckily I was still under warranty, so Micro$oft sent me my coffin and now I’m just waiting for it to get shipped back.

However, this really messed up some of my gaming plans. I had just gotten Army of Two and was ready to bust some fictional Middle-eastern country to hell with my brother online. I also got a copy of Dead Rising from Goozex and was ready to pretend I was in Dawn of the Dead. And perhaps most frustrating, I got a nice clean copy of Grand Theft Auto IV sitting on my tv stand just begging to be taken for a spin. Alas, all for naught. Why oh why have you forsaken me oh gaming gods!

There’s always a silver lining though and in this case it’s that my PS3 got quite a workout. Let’s not crazy though, I still don’t own or have played any PS3 games. But I sure do use that Blu-Ray player (thanks Netflix!) and I do play PS2 games on it. In this case, I got to finally finish playing FFX. Wow, I was surprised I had so much fun playing this game. I know I’m only like 7 years late to the party, but I had a blast taking this JRPG for a run. In particular, the music was fantastic especially Yuna’s theme as well as Suteki Da Ne. Obviously, the story was confusing and needlessly complex, I still had a great time playing through it. I got all of the good aeons including the super-duper powerful Anima. Between summoning Anima and double casting Ultima for 9999 damage, Yuna was easily my most powerful character. Plus, she’s awesome. Best Final Fantasy female character that I can remember.

Up next on my docket…1) eagerly tracking my Xbox 360 as it moves across the country to be repaired 2) May take Yakuza for the PS2 for a spin now that I’ve finished Final Fantasy X. 3) Look jealously at videos of GTA IV online
